Sleman, Indonesia - On April 28, 29, 30, and May 2, 2025, the Bambini Montessori School Casa 3-6 children experienced joyful, adventurous learning outside the classroom by riding a traditional horse cart, usually known as “Andong.” This annual outing aims to provide children with an exciting learning atmosphere. This unique activity especially introduced young learners to the local heritage of Andong as a mode of transportation.

Before the session, the children would listen to the cabman sharing about the horse cart, like the food, the horse’s characteristics, and Andong’s function as traditional transportation in Indonesia, expanding their knowledge. The sound of trotting hooves and children’s laughter filled the air as beautifully adorned Andong arrived at the schoolyard. Each group, accompanied by the teacher and the Andong driver, took turns riding through nearby the schoolyard.

During the ride, the Bambini Casa 3-6 children enjoyed the fun of “Andong” transportation as they viewed the scenery. The ride was more than just fun—it was a unique and enjoyable learning experience outside the classroom setting that fostered an appreciation for traditional Indonesian culture and modes of transportation. While children alternately took turns riding Andong, they joined the engaging classroom activities centered around the Andong theme by tracing outlines of the Andong drawing and coloring the illustrations of horse carts. These creative exercises helped reinforce the vocabulary, shapes, and concepts introduced while promoting fine motor skills, focus, and self-expression.

The program was initiatively designed to blend traditional culture with early childhood development goals at Bambini Montessori School, providing a wonderful platform for teaching about nature, observation, patience, and respect for animals. By bridging cultural heritage and education, the school aims to foster a generation that is rich in knowledge and culturally rooted.
