Sleman, Indonesia - The JMMS Residential Program Team A organized a craft and coloring on February 5, 2025, bringing together the students, as the event organizer, and children from the neighborhood, as the participants, to embark on creative workshops at the JMMS classroom. Taking responsibility as event organizers, the Residential Program Team A organizes, guides, and collaborates, showcasing their part of learning as soon-to-be adults.
At this workshop, the Team A students work together to teach the children how to make flower and taco crafts using chenille stems and fabric scraps in the JMMS classroom. Every student was teamed up with a child, providing one-on-one assistance throughout the process, introducing the chenille stem materials, and demonstrating the creative procedures of making flower and taco shapes by themselves, inspiring the children to practice their creative skills by creating unique designs. The students patiently accompanied every child throughout the creative process and helped them when they faced difficulties, promoting their mentorship skills.
With the students' guidance, the children explored various shapes and colors, sorting out, cutting, sticking, matching colors, shaping, and finalizing the crafts. By the session's end, every child had completed their craft and proudly showed their flowers and tacos, showcasing their fascinating handmade crafts in vibrant yellow, green, red, and blue colors. This activity not only elevates the children's artistic experiment but also reflects their confidence and hard work.
At the end of the activity, the students and children took a group photo, capturing their sweet and memorable memories at the workshop. Each child was also allowed to take home their handmade craft as a special souvenir, leaving a lasting memory and impression about the crafty activity on the day. This event served as an opportunity for the students to learn how to manage the program, from planning and executing to evaluating by themselves. More than that, they gained holistic development by learning how to communicate effectively with team members and the participants, manage time during the activity, and care for the participants genuinely.
This residential program reflects the school's commitment to nurturing students' independence, confidence, leadership, and social empathy. It was also a meaningful drive that allowed the students to boost their creativity skills through practicing and teaching. By guiding and assisting others, they learned to build meaningful community activities and strengthen strong bonds with one another. The JMMS community will continue to pave the way for the students to learn and grow into wise and responsible adults.
