Sleman, Indonesia - On February 27, 2025, the JMES second graders joined an educational field trip at Celosia Flower Park. This field trip was part of the hands-on learning initiatives provided for young children.
At Celosia Flower Park, the students' journey began as they embarked on various activities, such as learning about different types and parts of flowers, planting, and caring for plants. The students continued to step into the Wisteria Hallway and Endless Hallway (Lorong Tanpa Batas), mesmerized by the vibrant purple and pink flower decoration on top of the hallway.
The highlight of this trip was the flower care and planting session. Each student received a polybag, which they filled with fertilized soil before planting seeds in it. While practicing, the students were explained about the process of nurturing flowers and how they grow successfully into beautiful, colorful blooms. The students were especially excited to learn about the iconic flower of the park, the Celosia flower, a flower dominated by red and yellow hues. It is known that The Celosia flower is a decorative plant native to Africa, South America, and Southeast Asia. Aside from its bright colors, the Celosia flower is also characterized by its furry, flame-like flower heads and is even edible, deepening students' understanding. The students also observed other flowers, like sunflowers and paper flowers, examining them closely to satisfy their visual learning experience and high curiosity.
This field trip was a valuable opportunity for children to witness firsthand the diversity of decorative plants, learn proper flower care, and recognize the unique characteristics of various flowers. As they encountered every corner and flower at Celosia Flower Park, the students developed their Scientific understanding and cultivated a newfound appreciation of flowers' existence in the world.
