Sleman, Indonesia — On February 7, 2025, the student council of Jogjakarta Montessori Middle School (JMMS) successfully hosted a vibrant Chinese New Year celebration, the Lunar Shé Festival! This exciting event brought the school and the wider community together to celebrate the Lunar's values of joy, prosperity, and blessings while honoring the richness of Chinese culture.

The festival featured a wide array of activities, including an art workshop by the JMMS Art Community and games hosted by the JMMS Sports Community, such as the Red Envelope Treasure Hunt, Chopstick Relay, Lantern Riddles, and Reverse Hide-and-Seek, where the JMMS students participated in flowing excitement and positive disposition throughout the school environment.

The notable highlights of this event are the lively-stunning four lion dance performances and the special lion dance coloring competition held for children aged 5-10. The young participants eagerly poured their creativity onto paper, using dry techniques to capture the lion dance's vibrant colors and intricate details, showcasing their artistic talents. We are delighted for the winners who have put all their creativity and excitement into it:

2nd Winner: Angela Emanuella C from (Jogjakarta Montessori Elementary School (JMES)/SD Montessori)

3rd Winner: Sherin Eleanora Winarto from (Jogjakarta Montessori Elementary School (JMES)/SD Montessori)

The festival also showcased band performances by the JMMS Music Community, Chinese traditional songs by Sydney and Evan, a storytelling session about Legenda Timun Mas by Naira, and a violin performance by Camilo. The event culminated in a packed, meaningful-vibrant occasion of gift exchanges, potluck, Noodle Festival, and a fun touch of Lucky Draw!

The festival was warmly attended by students, parents, and community members, creating an atmosphere of connection and excitement. Attendees eagerly visited each booth, sampling various treats from several tenants, with the bakmi (noodles) standing out as a crowd favorite. The culinary delights added to the warmth and festive spirit, making everyone feel the comfort of traditional Chinese cuisine.

The Lunar Shé Festival was more than just a celebration; it was a beautiful moment of cultural appreciation, joy, togetherness, and creativity.
