Sleman, Indonesia – As part of its hands-on learning commitment, Jogjakarta Montessori Middle School (JMMS) Culinary Community had the chance to have an enriching cooking practice session at Mag Mag Kitchen on January 10th, 2025. This time's outing provided students with a unique opportunity to delve into the world of culinary arts and cooking experiments.
During this exciting activity, students engaged in cooking and had the privilege of learning from professional chefs at Mag Mag Kitchen. The day began with a sharing session led by the chefs and the kitchen manager. They shared the inspiring background story of Mag Mag Kitchen, providing students with valuable insights into the journey and success of the establishment. This session broadened the students' understanding of the challenges and efforts behind running a business, sparking their entrepreneurial curiosity. Following the discussion, the students had a short tour of the kitchen, where they observed and experienced the state-of-the-art facilities and equipment firsthand.
The highlight of the outing was the hands-on cooking session, where students worked in groups to create four exciting dishes: Chicken Quesadillas, Hawaiian Pizza, Ice Doger, and Ice Lychee Berry Mint. Divided into four groups, they enthusiastically chopped ingredients, shaped dough, mixed flavors, stirred, baked, and garnished their creations, developing their culinary skills under the guidance of professional chefs. The drinks-making segment added a creative touch as students experimented with blending and layering liquids to craft vibrant and visually appealing beverages.
As four chefs supervised the entire process, they demonstrated techniques, enhancing students' cooking abilities and providing a glimpse into the professionalism and discipline required in the culinary industry.
The activity concluded with students tasting their food creations, giving them a sense of accomplishment and pride in their cooking trials. In the end, the students got to have a Q&A session with the chefs and the manager, gaining insights into the food and beverage industry and hints of future career opportunities and preparation.
JMMS students were entirely grateful for the memorable experience at Mag Mag Kitchen, as they learned valuable lessons while having fun. This outing underscored JMMS's dedication to combining joy with education, fostering practical skills, and inspiring future aspirations.
