Sleman, Indonesia — As part of our ongoing commitment to hands-on learning, Jogjakarta Montessori Middle School (JMMS) recently came across an enriching visit at the Sangiran Early Man Museum on Thursday, November 7th, 2024. A total of 30 students from grade 7 embarked on the history of humanity back millions of years of exploration, encouraging students to dive deep into the rich and diverse Indonesia’s prehistoric heritage.
The students met an educational service with the Sangiran Early Man Museum’s staff. They were taken on an imaginative tour, exploring a vast collection of fossils and educational exhibits that illustrated the daily lives of early humans, showcasing their dietary habits, tool-making skills, and adaptability to a changing environment.
After the visit, the students reflected on their newfound knowledge by writing an insightful summary, amplifying their visit's outcome from the Sangiran Early Man Museum. The students echoed what they learned, the impact of the outing on their understanding of local heritage, and scientific discovery during the trip.
At Jogjakarta Montessori School, we believe that these hands-on learning experiences are invaluable for sparking curiosity, nurturing an appreciation of history, and providing a gateway to the broader fields of anthropology and archaeology. The Sangiran Early Man Museum visit is more than an educational journey, it is a spiritual experience that connects students with the past, honoring the lives of ancient humans who helped shape our civilization. Through such opportunities, students step back in time to witness humanity's remarkable journey and better understand their place within it.
