Sleman, Indonesia — Jogjakarta Montessori Middle School (JMMS) had an insightful outing for its 8th graders to Tropicoco, an organic coconut oil factory renowned for its good quality, sustainable practices, and eco-friendly products on Wednesday, November 6th, 2024. The field trip, intended for hands-on learning, allowed students to engage in a unique experience as they explored the process of crafting coconut oil from scratch.
At Tropicoco, students were introduced to the full coconut oil-making process, from the careful selection of coconuts to the exciting extraction techniques. They gained direct knowledge of the various tools essential to making coconut oil, including graters, basins, colanders, and scales. During the workshop, students actively participated in each stage of coconut oil production. They chopped coconuts, extracted the coconut meat, and observed the oil-making process firsthand. Following the workshop, the students were introduced to Tropicoco’s final coconut oil product, experiencing the transformation from raw ingredients to refined, sustainable products.
The students left with a deeper appreciation of the ecological benefits of sustainable agriculture and the value of utilizing local resources in an environmentally thoughtful way. This immersive activity taught them not only the science behind coconut oil production but also about the cultural and economic significance of coconut products in Indonesia.
This time's field visit unleashed the joyful eco-friendly production!
