Sleman, Indonesia — Jogjakarta Montessori Elementary School (JMES) is pleased to announce the success of a recent field trip undertaken by 6th-grade students to the Pusat Studi Astronomi Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (PASTRON UAD). This educational visit was essential to the program, providing students with enriching, hands-on learning experiences that complement their academic curriculum.
On August 29, 2024, our Grade 6 students were actively engaged in a comprehensive workshop at PASTRON UAD. They explored the intricacies of telescopic technology and its applications in astronomical observation, deepening their understanding of telescopes and their role in studying celestial phenomena.
JMES meticulously crafted the objectives of this excursion to align with our educational philosophy, which strongly emphasizes connecting students with the broader universe. By offering practical experiences, the aim was to help students understand their place in the cosmos and the interrelationships between various elements of the natural world, fostering a deeper connection between theoretical knowledge and real-world application.
During the educational excursion, the students could observe the sun through specialized telescopes, benefiting from clear weather conditions that facilitated an excellent view. This experience was meticulously designed by JMES to cultivate their observational skills, ignite scientific curiosity, and instill a lasting sense of wonder about the universe.
The students left the observatory feeling inspired and motivated as the day concluded. The visit had broadened their scientific knowledge and rekindled a deep curiosity about space exploration, leaving them eager to explore the subject further.
