Sleman, Indonesia — Bambini and Jogjakarta Montessori School proudly marked Indonesia's Independence Day on August 16, 2024, with a series of educational and community-centered events across Bambini Montessori School, Jogjakarta Montessori Elementary School (JMES), and Jogjakarta Montessori Middle School (JMMS). All activities adhered to a Red and White theme, reflecting the national pride of our school community.
In alignment with our mission to promote holistic development and community spirit, the day's events were carefully crafted to honor Indonesia's heritage while fostering values of unity, creativity, respect, and nationalism.
Bambini Montessori School hosted a range of engaging activities for its students, such as transferring Indonesian flags, participating in a sack race, arranging pieces to form the Garuda Pancasila emblem, moving boards from one spot to another, and taking part in an Indonesian Flag Relay Race. Through these activities, children not only enhance their fine motor skills and teamwork but also exposing a connection of Indonesia's culture and symbols, nurturing early feelings of nationalism and pride.
While in JMES, the teachers invited students and their families to join the Independence Day celebrations by creating and sharing decorations showcased on Instagram. Building on this spirit of creativity and involvement, the festival also featured a variety of class activities, including a guessing game, the traditional kerupuk eating contest, a class decorating contest with the highlight of Garuda doodle, and the JMES Fashion Show, where students designed costumes using mixed materials to represent a costume that identifies Indonesia.
At JMMS, we believe in providing a holistic learning experience. As part of our Independence Day celebrations, we organized a range of engaging activities. A notable highlight was the dramatic reenactment of Indonesia's independence process and the moments leading up to the proclamation. This performance was not just a play, but an educational tool that aimed to provide students with a deeper appreciation of historical events and reinforce a sense of national pride and collective identity. In addition to the drama, the students also played a variety of competitive traditional activities.
The Independence Day celebrations showcased our unity and pride as an Indonesian, which is rich in culture and history. The lively activities reflected our commitment to nurturing cultural heritage. So, we invite you to relive the excitement and view highlights from the day by visiting our Instagram page @jogjakartamontessori, where you can see the creativity of our students and share in the pride of Indonesia's Independence Day!
