Sleman, Indonesia — Jogjakarta Montessori Middle School (JMMS) proudly announces the successful completion of our annual “Masa Pengenalan Lingkungan Sekolah (MPLS)” program, held on July 15-16, 2024. This two-day event, organized by the JMMS Student Council (OSIS) under the leadership of Lintang Almeira Pambudi, was designed to welcome and integrate our new seventh-grade students into the JMMS community. Students from grades 8 and 9 also actively participated in various sessions, particularly the ice-breaking activities. This inclusive approach allowed for mixed-grade interactions, fostering a sense of unity and support among all students and ensuring that our new seventh graders felt welcomed and integrated into the JMMS community.
Day One: A Warm Welcome and Introduction to JMMS
On the first day of MPLS, they commenced with a heartfelt welcome address from Lintang, JMMS OSIS President, and Rengganis Istikasari, Principal of JMMS. Their speeches set a positive and inclusive tone for the program, emphasizing the importance of community and support within our school.
The morning activities began with an ice-breaking session designed to encourage teamwork and camaraderie among students, allowing them to engage with their peers in a fun and interactive manner. This was followed by the “Getting to Know the Teachers and Staff at JMMS” session, where new students had the chance to meet their educators and facilitators, further strengthening their sense of community.
Caecilia Candrarini, JMMS Curriculum Coordinator, delivered an insightful talk on “The Importance of Community and Social Interactions,” highlighting JMMS’s commitment to fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment. Students then participated in a guided tour of the school, led by OSIS members, to familiarize themselves with the campus facilities.
The day concluded with a comprehensive briefing on “School Rules and Regulations” by Rengganis, followed by a communal lunch, which encouraged students to bond over shared experiences.
Day Two: Empowerment and Engagement
An essential workshop from Panti Rapih Hospital on “Bullying and Sexual Violence” provided students with critical information and resources, helping to ensure a safe and respectful school environment.
A significant highlight of the day was the “Moment of Sharing: Self-Motivation and Learning Styles” session, presented by Salmaa Ceiba Abdillah, an alumna of the Jogjakarta Montessori Secondary School Class of 2022/2023. Her insights into personal development and effective learning strategies provided valuable guidance for new and returning students.
JMMS extends heartfelt thanks to all community members for their dedication and enthusiasm, which were crucial for the MPLS program’s success. We look forward to a productive academic year of growth, learning, and positive interactions.
